Project Engineer


Kaon Automation is seeking a dynamic individual to take responsibility for the successful delivery and implementation of customised automated equipment projects.  Kaon Automation have been providing custom designed automation solutions to leading manufacturing companies globally since 2005 and have a proven track record of providing innovative and flexible solutions.

A successful candidate will work on challenging, innovative projects within a highly technical and collaborative working group.  As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of projects to plan and will be the voice of our customers internally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the delivery of a portfolio of projects.
  • Full accountability of all aspects of project delivery from project kick-off phase to customer support of installed machines. This will include:
    • Ensuring the customer User Requirement Specifications (URS) are delivered to the customers satisfaction.
    • Ensure all aspects of the project delivery is completed to the required standard.
    • Deliver documentation suite including quality, safety, and end user documents.
    • Drive timelines to deliver solutions within the contracted timeframes.
    • Ensuring project milestones are achieved within the budgeted resource allocations.
    • Work closely with Programme Manager and Resources Manager to overcome resourcing and planning conflicts between projects.
    • Control scope and change requests internally and externally.
    • Facilitate effective technical and commercial communications between all project stakeholders.
    • Ensure projects statuses are clearly communicated through ongoing project reviews to customers and Kaon Automation managers.
  • Co-ordinate cross functional teams (Design, Controls, Debug and Workshop teams) to manage prioritisation of tasks.
    • Manage the development of work breakdown structures for each delivery phase.
    • Critically review and resolve planning / delivery issues as they arise.
    • Set out and drive project roadmaps to completion.
  • Provide problem solving support to each of the teams during the project to ensure quick resolutions to technical issues.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of key areas of the ongoing functional and technical challenges of each project.
    • Structured management of project issues using standardised project management tools to prioritise resolutions based on resources and targets.
    • Escalate problems as necessary in timely manner to ensure deadlines maintained.

Key Requirements

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Practical experience of mechanical, electrical & controls systems required.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role required.
  • Proven track record in leading engineering teams effectively.
  • Proven track record of ownership and delivery of commitments.
  • Self-starter with good attention to detail.

Workshop Manager


Kaon Automation is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our workshop team of Mechanical, Electrical and Debug Technicians.  Our workshop is a busy changing environment, producing highly technical complex machinery to a high quality within tight deadlines.

A successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and sound judgement to make important decisions on resourcing and prioritisation of activities.  Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Workshop Manager is also an important member of the Kaon management team, liaising with project engineers, the design and quality teams as well as leading and working on various management initiatives.

Electrical Design Engineer

The electrical design engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of electrical designs to facilitate the manufacture of complex automated equipment. The roles includes design, materials sourcing and procurement, offering guidance to build teams and assisting in debug & test activities where required.

Duties include the following:

  • Developing electrical designs for complex automation projects
  • Detailing electrical schematics for build
  • Sourcing of electrical components for designs
  • Creating test plans and documentation packs for developed electrical designs
  • Assisting in electrical debug of systems
  • Liaising with customers & suppliers
  • Meeting project delivery deadlines

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates must have a general electrical/electronic engineering degree diploma, ideally with a manufacturing content OR be a qualified electrician.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year industry experience involving electrical design, industrial wiring and debugging of manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with m/c elements such as; electrical controls, AC/DC motors, servo motors, invertors, general panel equipment, drives and pneumatics.
  • Experience of using software packages such as Eplan, Autocad, Microsoft office.
  • Basic knowledge & understanding of PLC programming and controls methodologies.
  • The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven to deliver inside normally expected timelines.
  • The candidate will need to be a team player and fit well within a team of professional individuals.

Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

The role involves becoming a member of the Kaon Automation mechanical design team.

Key responsibilities:


  • Develop part detail drawings and interface with suppliers to get quotations where required.
  • General assembly drawings
  • Ensure accurate bills of materials are developed on all assigned projects


  • Brief supplier on requirements and get quotations that ensure quality, value and project timelines are achieved
  • ensure orders are raised on Sage in a timely fashion to support project schedules
  • Follow-up on order progress
  • Develop understanding of supplier techniques


  • Develop Build Packs and brief build team
    • Communicate clearly with machine build technicians to ensure machine builds take place accurately and efficiently.
  • proactively addressing potential design or supply issues affecting projects by providing information and recommendations on a timely fashion to minimise project impacts.
    • Update drawings / Drafts
  • Develop “as built” drawings ensuring that customer drawings reflect as built at all times


  • supporting role to assist lead engineers
  • Ensure standard operating procedures adhered to
    • Complete project checklists and required internal Kaon Automation documents to ensure that project phase exits are completed correctly.

Educational, Experience, Skills & Competencies:

  • Educated to degree level in a mechanical engineering
  • Good communication skills, ability to work well within a team
  • Ability to take responsibility to ensure all project stakeholders are up to date with work progress daily
  • Good organisation skills
  • Good time management skills, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure
