Graduate Controls Engineer

The role will involve becoming a member of the Kaon Automation controls team, responsible for the design and implementation of all controls aspects on automated equipment.

Duties to include:

  • Primarily work in a supporting role to controls engineers
  • Develop or assist control program development for machine stations / areas as assigned by the control engineers.
  • Develop machine control programs (PLC/HMI/etc) for repeats, upgrades and smaller projects where the graduate engineer is assigned direct project responsibility.
  • Develop Eplan electrical drawings and interface with suppliers to get quotations where required.
  • Ensure accurate bills of materials are developed on all assigned projects and ensure orders are raised on the purchasing system in a timely fashion to support project schedules.
  • Communicate clearly with product builders to ensure machine builds take place accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop “as built” drawings ensuring that customer drawings reflect as built at all times.
  • Create customer documentation packages to meet EU standards (drawings, manuals, training documents, and CE certs, etc) as required to match customer URS requirements at machine handover.
  • Be available to build, debug or carry out factory acceptance tests on projects as required by Kaon Automation managers or mechanical engineers

Educational, Experience, Skills & Competencies:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Good communication skills are essential to and it is your responsibility to ensure all project stakeholders you are dealing with are up to date with work progress daily.
  • Ability to take responsibility to ensure all project stakeholders are up to date with work progress daily
  • Good organisation skills
  • Good time management skills, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Self-starter with good attention to detail
  • Current driving licence and able to travel as required

Controls Engineer

OVERVIEW

Kaon Automation is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to excel in the field of automation.  Kaon Automation have been providing custom designed automation solutions to leading manufacturing companies globally since 2005 and have a proven track record of providing innovative and flexible solutions.

A successful candidate will work on challenging, innovative projects within a highly technical and collaborative working group.  As a Controls Engineer you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of complex controls systems for automation equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work within the wider engineering group to develop concepts and specifications for equipment from User Requirement Specifications.
  • Develop and Debug machine control programs including PLC/HMI/Robotics/Motion Control/Vision/etc.
  • Involvement in research, development, and implementation of new control technologies
  • Co-ordinate and manage controls elements of build and debug of equipment.
  • Responsible for completing controls aspects of projects within the schedule and budget.
  • Liaising with customers on requirement specifications and project deliverables
  • Develop relationships with suppliers for equipment/component procurement.
  • Responsibility for design, commissioning, and safety of controls systems.
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior staff to help them realise designs and ensure that the customer end goals are being achieved.
  • Development of machine documentation to meet EU standards.
  • Meeting project deliverables and deadlines

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Min 5 years relevant experience working on the creation of machine control systems.
    • Ability to program AB Control Logix, Siemens S7
    • Familiar with configuring, commissioning, and debugging common machine networks and drive systems.
    • Experience in robotics (ABB, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Epson)
    • Experience of machine vision (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Must be keenly interested in engineering technology and remaining knowledgeable about the cutting edge of automation technology.
  • Excellent communication skills are vital to communicate effectively on job specification, technical direction, and issues daily.
  • Must be a self-starter with good attention to detail, willing to take ownership and responsibility to realise project milestones and timelines.
  • Project management experience advantageous
  • Proven track record in delivering solutions.
  • Current driving license and able to travel as required.
